Bruce Ralph Smith

Bruce Ralph Smith, age 80, of Clovis, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 4, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Clyde Davis officiating.

Bruce was born October 3, 1931 to Vernon and Nelle (Borene) Smith in Spencer, Iowa. He graduated as Valdectorian and Sports Letterman from Spokane High School. Bruce married Geraldine Proper April 28, 1951 in Spokane, WA and they came to Clovis in 1963. He worked as a Beef Department Manager for Swift Packing Plant. He was a member at First Presbyterian Church and served there as an Elder from 1964-2012. He taught an Adult Bible Study and a Junior High Bible Study, sang in the choir, and helped with the Church Food Bank. Bruce served as a Board Member for Retirement Ranch from 1996 to 2012 and kept score at the CHS Baseball games.

Survivors include his wife, Gerry of the home; a son, Chris (Carol) Smith of DeSota, TX; a daughter, Connie Ellis of Aberdeen, WA; a daughter-in-law, Kathie Burnside of Edmonds, WA; a brother, Chester E. Smith of Palo Alto, CA; seven grandchildren, Josh Ellis, Geoff Smith, Brian Ellis, Lindsay Jackson, Megan Smith, Nick Smith, and Mikayla Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Sean Ellis, Erik Ellis, and Leif Ellis. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Nelle; a son, Craig Smith; and a brother, Kenneth Smith.

The family request memorial contributions be made to CHS Baseball Booster Club, 1900 Thornton, Clovis, NM 88101 or First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Pile, Clovis, NM 88101.
